Dissertation: Risk Taking by Venture Capital Firms: A Behavioural Perspective

Supervisors: Prof. Julio de Castro and Prof. L. Nunez

Synopsis: Applying the behavioural organizational risk taking perspective, I examine the conditions under which VCs take higher or lower risks. In doing so, I contribute to resolving the on-going debate in the organizational risk taking literature as to the direction of the relationship between past performance and risk taking. Empirical analysis is performed on a sample of VC investment decisions derived by combining data from three secondary databases – Capital IQ, Orbis and Dealogic - as well as a data feed from Private Equity Intelligence.
